As far as i know there's no documents in french about the Kwangju uprising. I only found a translation of one of your articles. That's the way i heard about South Korean Democracy. So, please excuse this naive question, but how can a book be so expensive (145 dollars for a new one)? And by consequence who buys such a thing?

I, too, was shocked by the price. Publishers have not overwhelmingly sought to bring what they regard as obscure topics into the public limelight. The capitalist system being what it is, I was happy to see the book in print.
Having said that, the book is available in many libraries--and that is for whom the publsiher agreed to print the book. I hope you can locate it in France. If not, let me know and I will send you the articles in digital form. You may also check my web site for other pieces on Korea.
If you would like to bring out documents in French, let me know. I am moving to Gwangju today for two years (and may not have regular email for another week or so). I would help you to locate whatever you need.
I feel the Gwangju Uprising is as important in the 20th Century as the Paris Commune was in the 19th...indeed that the capacity for grassroots organization was far advanced in Gwangju 1980.

I don’t know if it’s really possible but it seems that South Korean Democracy is not in any libraries in France. In fact, I only had a look on the internet, rather out of curiosity than anything else, because I live in a small town and, anyway, it wouldn’t be practical to get the book in an other town (Even if I just realize it could be a good idea to spend a few days reading far from home, children, habits, etc.) Thus, it would be nice if you send me it in digital form.
Otherwise, what do you mean by “bring out documents in French”:
- you have French versions? (Of course, I’m interested in)
- you think about a translator and a publisher? (I think some French altermondialist sites can do both; or else I know a few independent publishers that could be interest too.)
Incidentally, had you remark main differences between Gwangju and Oaxaca?
Have you references about manifestations for peace in 2003 (at first, some descriptions of the process)?

Sorry to have taken so long but here, finally, is the book. If this PDF is not appropriate, I can send the chapters as word files. Please let me know your reaction...and if you can help find a French translator.

The PDF is OK, thank you.
I'm gonna do my best to find a translator…
